About Divine Heights

Malawian-owned, run by the people who built it, and designed around a kind of stay the market kept overlooking.

Divine Heights began as a bed and breakfast. It became a serviced rooms and apartments property because of what guests kept asking for.

People arriving in Lilongwe for a month or two kept asking the same questions. Was there a kitchen. Could they get a desk. Could a colleague have their own bathroom. Could we invoice their organisation rather than take a card. Could they stay for ninety nights without paying a nightly rate for ninety nights.

None of those questions are what a bed and breakfast is built to answer, and they turned out to be the only questions that mattered to the people staying longest. So we rebuilt around them: a private ensuite for every room, a desk in every room, kitchens in the townhouses, and rates that step down properly as the stay gets longer.

We also listened to what people actually booked. More than four in five of our reservations are for a single room rather than a whole house, so in 2026 we built the Garden Wing: four large rooms with air conditioning, private balconies and modern ensuites, designed to be the best single room in this part of Lilongwe rather than a bedroom inside somebody else's house.

Locally owned, locally run

Divine Heights is Malawian-owned and independently operated. It is not a franchise, not a management contract, and not answerable to a head office in another country. When something needs fixing, the person who decides is in Lilongwe.

That matters more than it sounds. Guests on long assignments deal with the same small team for the whole stay, and when a request falls outside the standard offer — a late arrival, a dietary requirement, an extension at short notice, an invoice your finance system needs formatted a particular way — there is somebody with the authority to simply say yes.

Built for the assignment-length stay

Most of our guests are here for work: staff on secondment, consultants on contract, evaluation teams, and families in transition between postings. A few are here on holiday and find that a large room with a balcony, or a whole house with a kitchen, beats a hotel room for that too.

We have deliberately not tried to be a hotel. There is no restaurant, no bar and no lobby. There is a garden, a desk in your room, power that stays on, a gate that stays shut, and — in the townhouses — a kitchen you can cook a proper meal in. For a stay measured in weeks, that trade is the right one.

How we work with organisations

A large share of our guests are placed by an organisation rather than booking for themselves. We have built for that: United States Dollar invoicing, purchase order references, Long-Term Agreements at fixed rates, and an open invitation to any security function that wants to assess the property before placing staff.

We would rather be assessed and approved than simply booked. It takes longer at the start and it makes everything after it easier.

“Everything, convenience for gateway to the airport so I like the location, room comfort and WiFi always available. Although the chef was not available because I arrived late and there were heavy rains, the caretaker made an omelet for me as I was hungry and tired, I really appreciated.”
